I have the honour to acknowledge receipt of your Excellency's despatches Nos. 133 and 136, the first transmitting a memorandum by His Honour the Chief Justice on the subject of the jurisdiction of the Hongkong Court in China, the second enclosing a letter of request covering a writ of summons in the case of Said Ahamed Harican versus Chu Pak lok for transmission to the Nanhai Magistrate in Canton.
In compliance with Your Excellency's request I have the honour to make the following observations on Sir Francis Pigott's memorandum.
His Honour says "any question as to the jurisdiction of the Hongkong Court is one which it is for the Judges of the Court to determine", and he adds "the jurisdiction of the Court extends to Chinese in China in certain cases defined...
